Your friends and family could be your biggest support and help. They may not have a clue about your business – but they do know you. They know exactly how to push your buttons. Mostly they will be trying to help - so you should pay attention to them and follow their advice.

Working at home means you can give them the attention they deserve. You can play with your kids, help with the washing up and spend time with those you love. After all – time only comes round once, as Omar Khayam wrote –

"The moving finger writes – and having writ moves on, not all your wit can cancel half a line, nor all your tears can wash out a word of it.”

In trying to be pragmatic, friends and family may be rather negative about your business. That is natural, and should cause you concern. You may be discouraged by their well meaning concern, but loosing your self confidence is the first step to failure. It was Ford who said words to the effect that "if you believe you can do it, you will – and if you believe you can’t then you won’t”, so bear that in mind. Your mind set is all important and will be influenced by your nearest and dearest...

You know that little voice that plays over and over again in your mind? Make sure it is speaking in a very negative and critical way. Feed it with lots of impossible questions. This will enable you to feel quite depressed about your internet business, it will take out any "fun” element and make it all so much harder to actually knuckle down and work. After all, you have other things to do. You should always concentrate on the problems you are encountering, that way you will be focussed on the difficulties that lie ahead, and feel less eager to sit down and work!

When you friends call round ...you are available - and indeed, pleased to see them. You have time to spend with them. To listen to their uninformed opinions and feel even more dejected about your work.
Some people say that friends might become jealous of you success – but you needn’t worry your head about that, since if you take my advice you will never succeed. You will keep your old friends, their way of living, and stay safe in your comfort zone where nothing much ever happens.

Oh – and play the "blame game”. It’s always the fault of someone else if you don’t succeed. It’s their fault if things go wrong, when it all ends up pear shaped. You must never, ever take responsibility for your actions. It’s not your fault you are not super rich.
